Is Hypnotherapy Safe?

Hypnotherapy is a natural ability everyone has to change their underlying thinking. Your subconscious holds all the thoughts you are not “thinking” right now. It also runs all of the processes you need to live each day. The number one job of your subconscious mind is to protect you.

Hypnotherapy  uses words to change or replace those thoughts which no longer help you in a positive way. Your subconscious will reject anything which does not benefit you. Only words are used, not pills or supplements during sessions. There are no side effects to hypnotherapy.

What can be treated with Hypnotherapy?

Your thoughts are the foundation of your actions. If your actions do not match what you would like to be doing in your life, something needs to change. 
Hypnotherapy can safely treat many aspects of common problems safely. It can help you break your physical and emotional dependence on overeating, smoking, or drinking.  It is also effective in overcoming anxiety, stress, anger, or depression. 

In addition, hypnotherapy can be used to increase focus, confidence, self worth, and improve sports and musical performance.

Why do I have to relax?

In order for hypnotherapy to be effective, there needs to be an openness to follow the suggestions made during the hypnotherapy process. Your conscious mind is the “gatekeeper” of your thoughts. If your gatekeeper is actively pushing back against the suggestions to change the process can take longer.

While you are relaxed, your brain processes new information. The majority of it happens while you are sleeping. However, when you rest throughout the day, your brain starts the process. In order to aid that process and start the movement to your new way of thinking and acting, relaxation encourages the change to take place immediately.

Suggestions will never be made against your wishes during any session. The only suggestions made will be part of the discussion prior to the hypnotherapy.

What If I Recall Something Awful?

Your subconscious only brings up what you can handle at the time. Anything that comes up is your subconscious telling you that you are ready to heal, process, create clarity, or begin a new path.

How Will I Know It Worked?

Your results are dependent upon you and your willingness to embrace the process and your readiness to make a change. If you aren’t ready to let go of the issue, results will take longer.

Results can be noticed in the minutes, hours, and in the days after the session is complete. Sometimes they are immediate, other times, it takes longer to notice the changes have taken place. Be observant of changes and improvement in your daily actions.

Can I Get Stuck in Hypnotherapy?

It’s physically impossible to be “stuck” in hypnotherapy. You are not unconscious at any point during the session but fully conscious and aware. There has never been a case of someone stuck in hypnotherapy. It only happens in the movies.

You are brought out of the relaxed state when given a verbal cue by the hypnotherapist. There are times when you won’t want to come out of hypnosis because you are so relaxed and prefer to stay in the relaxed state. If that happens it may take you a few minutes to return to your normal awareness due to your desire to stay in the relaxed state.

Will I Be Under Your Control?

YOU are always in control. You’ll be able to hear what’s going on and interact during the process.

Hypnotherapy is a state of deeply relaxed focus. It’s a natural state you enter at least twice a day (while waking up and while falling asleep). It happens more often than we realize. If at any time you wish to be fully awake, you can just count to yourself “1 – 2 – 3” and open your eyes.

How Long, How Often, and How Many Sessions Do I Need?

Each session generally lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. The number of sessions depends on what you choose to work on. Many challenges take 6 to 8 sessions. It can take more or fewer sessions depending on how you progress.

To start, the frequency is generally once a week for the first several weeks, and then every other week until you feel like you’re in a place to move forward on your own. You’re the judge of how many sessions you need.

What can I expect during a session?

You will experience a deep sense of relaxation. You may drop in and out of the relaxed state. Each session is different and dependent on what you want to focus on.

Some of the techniques used may be similar from session to session, however, the content is always unique and  discussed prior to the hypnotherapy. Although you may not recall specifics, you are always in control.

What can I expect after a session?

Everyone’s experience is different. Most feel deeply relaxed. Some feel like they need a nap, others feel more energized. You may recall some of what was said during the session, there are things you may not remember right away, which you may recall later.

After the session, it’s a good idea to go for a short walk. The extra blood flow to your brain helps process the experience. Also, plan to drink extra water and get a good night’s sleep.
